Bridgestone Sounds Tyre Pressure Alarm

Oct 17, 2011 Posted Under: Insurance Help

Tyre maker Bridgestone South Africa has called on the motoring public to check their tyre pressures at least every two weeks. The plea comes in the wake of a tyre survey which showed that nearly one in five tyres is dangerously over- or under-inflated. The survey, which was conducted in the car park of Pick n Pay Verulam in Durban on October 1, was the third leg of Bridgestones Tyre Check initiative for 2011.

Our tyre specialists checked 436 tyres on 109 vehicles for condition and pressure,” said Bridgestone Public Relations Manager, Mandy Lovell. “

I changed car locks after key stolen – but Churchill would not cover me

Oct 13, 2011 Posted Under: Car Insurance Online

My wife’s handbag, including items showing our address and car keys, was stolen. I was worried the thief could find the car so paid to have the locks changed. I claimed under the personal possessions section of my house insurance with Churchill but was turned down as Churchill regards car keys as vehicle accessories, which are excluded. My Churchill motor policy excludes keys lost outside the car. GC, Ashford, Kent

Churchill told you that keys were an accessory and not a personal possession, which is a peculiar interpretation that it now retracts. But the full exclusion reads “accessories and parts” and insurers commonly describe keys as parts.

Drivers should not be penalised for using winter tires, says AA Insurance

Oct 12, 2011 Posted Under: Insurance Help

According to AA Insurance, winter tyres effectively improve traction, braking and cornering on wet or icy roads at temperatures below seven degrees Celsius.

However, last winter there was confusion for many customers as some motor insurers considered the fitting of winter tyres to be a modification, warranting an increased premium or, at worst, withdrawal of cover.

Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, says: I believe that this was a misunderstanding by some insurers.

It is ludicrous for an insurer to penalise a driver for fitting winter tyres, given that doing so both underlines a responsible approach to safety by the driver as well as reducing the likelihood of a collision.

Mr Douglas says that provided the winter tyres and wheels to which they are fitted meet the car manufacturers specification and are fitted professionally, there should be no need to inform your insurer.

But if you do tell your insurer, there should be no change to your insurance premium, he says.

If your car insurance is due for renewal it would be worth checking with your insurer first.

The basics of auto insurance for women

Sep 25, 2011 Posted Under: Insurance Help

Though women may cry out loud for unfair treatment to them as compared to men in most of the scenarios, including at the workplace, there is one aspect they are not complaining about. Auto insurance providers offers privileges to female drivers that are not offered to male drivers, thereby making auto insurance premiums cheaper for women as compared to men.  It is not uncommon to see men using the term ‘women drivers’ in irritation while driving on roads.
