The blogosphere rumour mill has been working on overdrive since a Stratos looking concept was spied at a Fiat test track a few weeks ago. That turned out to be a one-off, made especially for a wealthy entrepreneur involved in the motor industry. He commissioned the legendary Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina to build the homage to the wedge shaped legend.

The car is based on the Ferrari 430 Scuderia’s platform although has been shortened to fit in with the old dimensions of the car. Like the old model that was powered by the 2.4 L Dino V6, the new version is also powered by a Ferrari engine, the 4.3 L V8 from the Scuderia. It is bound to be blisteringly fast, its built with carbon fibre bodywork so extremely lightweight and has serious amounts of power coming from that Ferrari V8. Power to weight ratio is set to be 413bhp/ton from the 503hp monster, and so will be remarkably quicker than the old model that had 197bhp/ton.
The design is stunning, keeping very in tune with the early seventies model. I am a big fan of the classic model and also a big fan of this, the sharp looks with big flared wheel arches. The lights have been modernised, with the loss of flip-up lights at the front and rear lights taken from the Ferrari 599 GTB.

It is understood that Pininfarina has been told they can explore the possibility of making this a limited production car, with up to 25 examples to be made. Before you get too excited though, they won’t be cheap and are expected to be priced well into the hundreds of thousands.
It’s not sure whether it will be badged up as a Lancia or a Stratos, or whether this will only be a one off car, but whatever they decide, I’m sure Adrian Flux will insure it.
